Review criteria

Official Review Criteria

The inaugural AI Music Awards (AIMAs) received more than 2,000 submissions. To make sure every work that reaches voters gets properly heard, we're publishing the official criteria our review team uses to determine eligibility and build each category's shortlist. These criteria apply equally to every submission in every category.

Step 1: Eligibility Requirements

Every submission must meet all of the following to be considered:

  1. 1.Publicly Available

The work is released and publicly accessible on at least one major streaming or distribution platform. Unreleased demos and private links are not eligible.

  2. 2.Complete Submission

All required submission information is provided, including credits, working links, and any required AI-use disclosure.

  3. 3.One Entry Per Artist, Per Category

Each artist may be represented by one work per category. Where multiple works were submitted to the same category, one will advance.

  4. 4.Correct Category

The work fits the category it was submitted to. Misfiled entries will be moved to the appropriate category rather than disqualified.

Step 2: Shortlist Review

In categories with more than 20 eligible submissions, our review team evaluates each work against four criteria to determine a shortlist of 20 works that advance to voting by SIQA Verified Registry members.

Craft

Is the work well produced, mixed, and finished?

Creative Use of AI

Is AI used with clear artistic intention?

Originality

Does the work have a distinct artistic identity?

Category Fit

Is it a strong example of its category?

Artist and "Of The Year" categories

For "Artist" related categories and "Of The Year" categories, we consider Craft, Originality, Creative Use of AI, and Category Fit, in addition to artist engagement in totality (metrics across platforms and overall brand strength) between the window of August 1st of the prior year to June 30th of the current year.

Our Commitments

  • No submission is removed from consideration by a single reviewer. Every work not advanced is reviewed by at least two members of the review team.
  • Reviewers recuse themselves from any work by an artist they know personally or work with.
  • Streaming numbers and follower counts are not considered. The AIMAs exist to recognize the work itself.
  • Given the awards timeline, all review decisions are final.

Thank you to every artist who submitted. The volume and quality of this year's entries is a testament to how far AI music has come.
